3 Year Old Preschool Supply List |
October, 2011
We have had an amazing start to our school year. God has truly blessed us. I have enjoyed walking around the school and seeing all the wonderful work that is being done. I would like to take this opportunity to share with you what has been happening at LCS.
Our chapel program has undergone some exciting changes. Our main goal this year is to create an intentional time of praise and worship that will engage all students at a variety of levels. To achieve this, we have moved chapel into the large gym, improving the visibility and sound quality of our program. We have created a schedule that includes special speakers, class performances, and special music. We are also creating an upper elementary chapel leadership team. Melissa Trafford has been instrumental in helping us to take our ideas and turn them into reality.
Engaging students in examining God’s word does not only happen in chapels. Classroom teachers also hold daily devotions with their students. Teachers share a devotion, discuss it with the class, and then students pray as a group. It is a great time for students to share their thoughts and concerns.
Classroom teachers also teach Bible class using the Christian Schools International Bible curriculum. Teachers use this time to delve deeper into passages from the old and new testaments. Great discussions are generated from these lessons.
In addition, we integrate our faith into all curriculum areas. One way this is accomplished is through essential questions. Throughout the year, teachers will work on developing essential questions for each curriculum unit. Here are few of the questions that students are thinking about this year:
In a second grade math unit on symmetry, students examine the following questions:
- Where do we see shapes and symmetry in God's creation?
- What does symmetry show us about God?
- What do the things in nature tell us about God?
In a fifth grade technology class, students consider these questions:
- How do I honor the creativity that God has given other people?
- How can I use creative things I find on the internet in the right way?
- When is using stealing?
- Why is it tempting to use other people's work?
When our curriculum explores the nature of God and considers the moral issues in common activities, we are educating our students to deal with real life situations that occur both in and out of school. It gives me great pleasure to be part of a team of educators that desires to educate children’s minds and hearts.
In Christ,
