January 2012
Dear Parents,
Partnering with parents is something we take seriously at Lansing Christian School. It’s a part of our mission statement, and it defines the way we work together every day at school. Teachers and administrators communicate with parents through e-mail and phone conversations, and through on-line grading and teacher websites. We have important conversations at parent-teacher conferences or in our classrooms and offices after school. We see one another at concerts and basketball games, at church on Sunday, and at special events like Banquet and Homecoming. Parents pray for our school and for our teachers, and teachers pray for students and for their families.
What if parents and teachers had the opportunity to learn together about important information that impacts students’ lives? I have wondered what the benefits would be of providing opportunities for parents to learn together with students and teachers at school.
On Thursday, February 2, Trooper Jeremy Brewer, from the Michigan State Police, will speak to our middle and high school students and teachers about Cyber Safety. Topics will include student safety and security on line, texting laws, bullying, and mak-ing good decisions with the right information. At 7:00pm that night, Trooper Brewer will do an information session for parents, where parents will have the opportunity to hear the same information students hear during the day. If we really want to help students work with the right information and make good decisions with all of the social media choices that are available to them, doesn’t it make sense to have parents, teachers and students operating with the same information? I think that’s what it means to partner.
On March 26, Trooper Brewer will speak with our students about the prevalence, realities, and dangers of drugs and alcohol. The date and time of the evening information session for parents will be communicated soon.
We invite you to partner with us in learning with our students so that together we can equip our students with the right information to make choices that honor God and help our students lead healthy and productive lives.

Student Appointments during the School day
- If a student needs to leave for an appointment during the school day, the student should submit a note from a parent to Mrs. Dunn or Mrs. Henderson at the beginning of the day
- The student will receive a pass from the office to present to the teacher at the appropriate time
- Before leaving school, the student must sign out in the office
- Parents can pick up their student outside the secondary entrance
- If a middle school student arrives late to school in the morning, we are asking the parent (or driver) to come into the school and sign the student in at the attendance table in front of the secondary office
- When the student is signed in, he/she will be issued a pass to first hour. There will not be disciplinary consequences for middle school students who arrive late to school in the morning. We are asking parents to assist in getting their middle school student to school on time
- IMPORTANT: Parents must park their car in the lot (do not leave it at the curb) before coming in the building
- If a middle school student is excessively late to first hour, a parent conference with the principal will be required.
Spiritual Life at Lansing Christian
Chapel for Middle School and High School Students
- In our continued efforts to make spiritual life a central and vital part of your child’s school experience, middle school and high school students will have chapel on Tuesdays and Fridays for 30 minutes. By having chapel twice a week, in the middle of the week, our plan is to connect the goals and content of chapel to other parts of school life.
- To develop more student leaders and to intentionally teach students the skills for leading their peers in worship
- To increase the level of staff involvement in chapel
- To increase our level of engagement with the local community, and specifically with churches. Guest speakers for chapel will include: Youth Pastors, LCS alumni, musicians, parents, and various people in our community with an important Christ-centered message to communicate to our young people.
College Financial Aid and Scholarship Information:
To find information on financial aid or scholarships for college, follow this link or look on this page under Secondary Resources.
Homework Websites:
Our middle school and high school teachers all have homework websites. Students can access these websites on the Secondary Page of the LCS website. If your child is sick and at home, this at-home access to school work can serve as a great tool to keep your student connected to the learning that is happening at school.
