What do you teach at LCS?

9th-12th Grade art, yearbook, sometimes 7th and 8th grade art

How does your teaching equip students for the future?

The visual arts help students to engage in creative problem solving, which is essential for their futures. It also helps students to think about the world around them with an attention to detail, and appreciation for God’s creation and the people He’s created.

What is a unique experience, talent or interest that you bring to your classroom to help shape the learning experience of your students?

When I was in college, I had the opportunity to be a camp counselor at Camp Geneva for two summers. That really helped to see my students as not only students in my class, but as well-rounded individuals who God is doing amazing work in both in and outside of school.

What are your interests or hobbies outside of school?

I really enjoy traveling, mostly daytrips these days, and having adventures with my family. I also make jewelry, watercolor paintings, and enjoy baking.

What is something you’ve accomplished that you’re proud of?

I’m in year 15 of teaching art at LCS!

What’s your “catch-phrase” or something you’re constantly saying to your students?

“Okay everyone, I know I said the last project we did was my favorite, but this next one is actually the best!”

What is your deep hope for your students?

My deep hope for us is that we will recognize that we are created in the image of God, whose first role was as our Creator. The Bible says we have been created in God’s image, which means we are made to be like Him; a lifelong process.
We are artists.

What do you hope students will remember about you or your class?

I hope they felt great joy in deeply experiencing the creative process, and I hope they take that joy and find ways to be creative throughout their lives.

What do you love most about LCS?

I love that I am able to live out God’s calling for my life in such a great community, surrounded by colleagues and students that are truly God-sent.
