LCS Teaches for Transformation

Teaching for Transformation (TfT), developed in partnership with the Center for the Advancement of Christian Education, is the framework we use at LCS to support transformational learning. Incorporating best practices in instruction, collaborative teacher learning, and authentic learning experiences for students, TfT provides the path for students to see how class content connects to their faith and their role in God’s Story. In other words, the TfT framework offers a way for teachers and students to use the curriculum of each class from preschool to 12th grade to engage and transform the world for Jesus Christ. Now in our third year of TfT, we are excited about the direction we are moving with teaching and learning at LCS.
Transformational learning starts with teaching from a place of Deep Hope for students, an articulation of why teachers followed the calling to Lansing Christian School. Then, each class has a Storyline that helps teachers and learners connect the curriculum with God’s Story. Through TfT, we have articulated Habits of Living to describe what it means to engage and transform the world for Jesus Christ, such as Servant Working and Community Building. Finally, student learning culminates in Formative Learning Experiences, designed to give students the opportunity to live out their role in God’s Story by using what they learn to meet real needs of real people in our community. These core practices have been instrumental in moving LCS toward transformational learning that is far more than the accumulation of facts and information.
