Student Statesmanship Institute

The Student Statesmanship Institute (SSI) offers an immersive, hands-on legislative experience designed to complement a Christian liberal arts education. Through the study of public policy, debate, and statesmanship, students learn to analyze complex issues, think critically, communicate persuasively, and collaborate effectively with their peers. Grounded in a distinctly biblical worldview, SSI challenges students to apply timeless Christian principles to contemporary cultural and civic questions.

SSI’s mission is to partner with parents and educators in preparing the next generation of Christian leaders. By cultivating wisdom, virtue, and responsible citizenship, the program equips students to serve as faithful ambassadors for Christ in their communities and throughout society.

Student Outcomes

Through participation in SSI, students gain:

  • A deeper understanding of God’s calling, purpose, and providential work in their lives.
  • Increased motivation to pursue excellence in learning and to steward their gifts for God’s glory.
  • Greater discernment in evaluating secular and biblical perspectives on contemporary issues.
  • Practical experience applying biblical truth to public life, culture, and civic engagement.
  • A richer appreciation for their responsibilities as Christian citizens in a constitutional republic.
  • Strengthened skills in leadership, teamwork, critical thinking, strategic reasoning, debate, public speaking, and persuasive writing.
  • Greater confidence in articulating and defending their convictions with both conviction and grace.

SSI encourages students to think deeply about their role in God’s kingdom and their potential influence in the world. By integrating faith, learning, and civic responsibility, the program inspires young men and women to pursue lives of faithful service and Christ-centered leadership. The SSI experience culminates in a legislative session at the Michigan State Capitol, where students debate bills and cast their votes in the Senate Chambers.
